RDB, RCB, RHA staff paid respects to victims of the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi

Today, RDB(Rwanda Development Board), together with Rwanda Convention Bureau (RCB) and Rwanda Housing Authority (RHA) staff paid respects to the over 26,500 victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi laid to rest at the Mwulire Genocide Memorial in Rwamagana District, Eastern Province.

The commemoration event was officiated by RDB CEO Francis K. Gatare Eastern Province Governor Pudence Rubingisa, Ibuka Rwanda Vice Chair Momfort Mujyambere, Rwamagana District Mayor Radjab Mbonyumuvunyi, Rwanda Convention Bureau CEO Janet Karemera, and Rwanda Housing Authority Director General Alphonse Rukaburandekwe

They laid wreaths and listened to accounts from survivors. “It is important we put ourselves in the shoes of the people who fell here then, without any preparation. It’s important we remember so we never forget. We have a responsibility to learn lessons in order to differentiate ourselves from any kind of injustice that hinders the development of our country. We have a responsibility of telling our history and always working towards Rwanda’s transformation.”, RDB CEO, Francis Gatare said.

The genocide against the Tutsi occurred between 7 April and 19 July 1994 during the Rwandan Civil War. During this period of around 100 days, more than one million of Tutsi minority ethnic group were killed by armed Hutu militias. (End)
