The Rwanda Defence Force Officers (RDF) from the Middle-Level Commanders and Staff Seminar at the RDF Senior Command and Staff College in Gacurabwenge visited the Kigali Genocide Memorial and the Campaign Against Genocide Museum on Friday to pay their respects to the victims of the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.
The students were guided through images, records and documentation of the Genocide against the Tutsi and how it was stopped by the Rwandan Patriotic Army (RPA). They also laid a wreath in honor of the victims.
Colonel Lausanne Ingabire Nsengimana, Head of Academics at the Rwanda Defence Force Senior Command and Staff College, emphasized the importance of educating officers about Rwanda’s recent history. She noted that understanding this dark chapter is crucial for young officers to appreciate how Rwanda has managed to rebuild from the ground up.
Lieutenant Therese Mukasakindi highlighted the significance of the seminar for members of the RDF stating, “Knowing the history of our nation and the experiences of our predecessors is the backbone upon which we build. As we continue to learn our history, it equips us with the foresight to prevent such atrocities in the future.” (End).
