On 1 March 2024, the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and Rwanda National Police (RNP), in collaboration with local government and other partners officially launched the countrywide three-month Defence and Security Citizen Outreach Programme 2024. The theme for this initiative is “30 Years of Liberation: Defence and Security Organs with the Community Partnering for Rwanda’s Development.”
The launching ceremony took place in different districts of the country. The Minister of Defence Hon. Juvenal MARIZAMUNDA participated in the construction of a Bridge in Musanze District, the Minister of Local Government Hon. Jean Claude MUSABYIMANA participated in the construction of houses for those in need in Gisagara District.
The Minister in charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA) Maj Gen (Rtd) Albert MURASIRA launched the construction of the Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Rutsiro District, the Minister of Gender and Family Promotion Hon. Valentine UWAMARIYA launched the construction of an Early Childhood Development (ECD) centre in Gasabo District.
The RDF Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Mubarakh MUGANGA launched the construction of a drilling and water supply project in Ngoma District whereas in Burera District Deputy IGP DCG Jeanne Chantal UJENEZA launched the construction of Early Childhood Development (ECD) center.
The highlighted Government officials who presided over the event expressed gratitude for the trust and cooperation extended by the public to the security organs recognizing the crucial role they play in upholding the country’s security and development. The population was reminded that this collaborative approach has registered remarkable results in achieving prosperity and improved quality of life for the citizens.
This year’s Defence and Security Outreach Programme 2024 will encompass initiatives such as the construction of 31 homes for those in need, the construction of 15 Early Childhood Development (ECD) centres, the construction of 13 bridges, and the distribution of four boats. Other efforts include the distribution of 800 livestock for community farming, provision of medical treatment, water and electricity supply to 327 households, and enhancement of other infrastructures.
