RMB (Rwanda Mines, Petroleum and Gas Board) CEO Amb. Yamina Karitanyi marked the launch of two mining projects at Trinity Metals Group’s Musha Mine in Rwamagana district. The projects are part of ongoing efforts towards the development of Rwanda’s mining sector.
The first project, Umuvanda, is a drilling project dedicated to lithium exploration. It is expected to help determine the extent of the reserves and the potential for lithium mining in Rwamagana.
With its newfound significance as a key component in batteries for electric vehicles, lithium has joined Rwanda’s diverse mineral portfolio traditionally including 3Ts, gold, gemstones, and rare earth elements.
The second project, Heza decline, is an underground opening for tin mining. This project will help to increase production at the Musha Mine and overall country production of this commodity.
In the ceremony for the commencement of these two projects, participants toured two mine sites of Ntunga and Musha.
These projects align with Rwanda’s strategic vision of mining sector professionalization, unlocking the country’s vast, underexploited mineralization potential. They also exemplify the ongoing efforts to transition towards semi-mechanized mining operations, enabling subsurface mining through in-depth drilling. (End)
