Russian Ambassador to Rwanda Karén Chalyan bids farewell

Minister of State in charge of Regional Cooperation, James Kabarebe, bid farewell to Mr. Karén Chalyan, the outgoing Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Rwanda, as his six years tour of duty ends.

During the farewell call, Minister of State James Kabarebe commended the Ambassador for his invaluable contribution to bolstering Russia-Rwanda relations during his tenure and wished him success in future endeavors.

Since becoming the Russian Ambassador to Rwanda in June 2018, Ambassador Karén Chalyan has worked to strengthen and promote the strong bond of friendship between Russia and Rwanda.  

Mr. Chalyan has extensive experience in the fields of diplomacy and international relations. His service with the Foreign Ministry, which began in 1977, included assignments at Headquarters in Moscow and long-term postings to Nigeria and Botswana. 

In 1995-2010, Mr. Chalyan served with various field missions of the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, in the Former Yugoslavia, Liberia and Sudan. 

In 2010-2017 he held the post of Mission Chief of Staff of the African Union – United Nations Hybrid Operation in Darfur.
