Rwanda Agriculture Minister met with FAO Assistant Director-General for Africa

On the sidelines of the Extraordinary African Union Summit in Kampala, Rwanda’s Minister of Agriculture and Animal Resources Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe met with Dr. Abebe Haile-Gabriel, FAO Assistant Director-General for Africa.

Minister Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe and Dr. Abebe Haile-Gabriel reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the agri-food systems transformation agenda in Rwanda.

Minister Mark Cyubahiro Bagabe represented the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, at the Extraordinary African Union Summit of Heads of State and Government, which endorsed the new 10-Year Comprehensive Africa Agriculture Development Programme (CAADP) Strategy and Action Plan.

This extraordinary summit, under the theme “Building Resilient Agri-Food Systems in Africa”, brought together leaders to discuss sustainable agriculture and endorse Africa’s Agri-Food System 10-Year Strategy and Action Plan.

Started on January 9 and closed on Saturday, the three-day summit was attended by over 2,000 delegates including development partners, heads of state, and agriculture experts from 43 AU member states.

The gathering aimed to finalize the CAADP Strategy and Action Plan 2026-35, which is expected to transform Africa’s agriculture.

The CAADP 2026-35 Strategy and Action Plan is built around six key objectives, including intensifying sustainable food production and agro-industrialization, boosting investment in agri-food systems, and ensuring food and nutrition security. (End)
