Today, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr Vincent Biruta welcomed João Cravinho, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Portugal, who is in Rwanda for a two-day visit.
The two ministers held a bilateral meeting and discussed ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Portugal. They also exchanged on regional and global matters.
Portugal Foreign Minister João Gomes Cravinho is traveling to several countries in Africa, with an extensive agenda that begins in Nigeria, passes through Rwanda, and ends in Ethiopia, the headquarters of the African Union.
In Rwanda, the program starts with a meeting with his Rwandan counterpart, Dr Vincent Biruta, during which will be reviewed the latest developments in bilateral cooperation, which has been growing in areas such as energy, investment and trade, as well as security and defense.
Also on the agenda, there are regional and international issues such as the Central African Republic, the Great Lakes and the situation in Cabo Delgado. On Monday, Minister João Gomes Cravinho will also hold meetings with other local authorities and will visit projects supported by the European Union under the Global Gateway and with the participation of Portuguese companies.
Diplomatic relations between Portugal and Rwanda were set forth on the 12th of February of 1976. Ambassador António Baptista Martins was the first Ambassador to present credentials as non-resident in Rwanda as Ambassador Resident in Kinshasa, on the 25th of January of 1977.
Ambassador Helena Malcata presented credentials to President Paul Kagame on the 22nd of February 2019. (End)
