
Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe held a productive phone conversation with Jean-Noël Barrot, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France.
The discussions between the two Ministers centred on the situation in the Eastern DRC, in light of the recent joint EAC-SADC Summit.
The joint summit by the Southern African bloc, SADC, and the East African Community (EAC) was held in Tanzania last Saturday, following the offensive of the March 23 Movement (M23) in two provinces in eastern DRC.
Since the beginning of the year, the rebels have seized several towns in North Kivu, including Goma, the capital of the province, located on the Rwandan border. The armed group is currently advancing along Lake Kivu towards Bukavu, the capital of South Kivu. (End)
