Kigali: The Rwanda national football team – for home-based players – jets out to Kinshasa tonight ahead of Wednesday’s international friendly match against DR Congo in preparations for this month’s first leg of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) final round.
Rwanda face Ethiopia in the first leg of the final round of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Mekelle Stadium while the return leg will be staged in Kigali on October 19.
The Senior National team head coach Mashami Vincent named a final 23-man team which will take part in these two crucial matches.
The summoned players joined camp last night and trained on Monday morning, 9am at Stade Amahoro.
The Rwandan delegation will then head to Kinshasa at midnight via RwandAir with expected arrival set at 01:40am.
The Amavubi team will train on Tuesday at Stade des Martyrs ahead of Wednesday’s friendly tie.
The friendly match, only the fourth meeting between Rwanda and DR Congo in the last 15 years, will be Amavubi’s last assessment for Mashami before the team jets out to Addis Ababa on September 19. Rwanda leads the two neighbours’ head-to-head record 2-1.
Established in 2009 and exclusively designed for players who feature in their domestic leagues, the 6th edition of the biennial continental showpiece will be held in Cameroun next year. (End)
