Rwanda launches agroforestry project for sustainable agriculture

Today, Minister of Environment Mujawamariya Jeanne d’Arc officiated the launch of the Development of Agroforestry for Sustainable Agriculture in Rwanda, a project under Forest Investment Plan.

This 5-year project will be implemented in Southern Province and Gakenke District funded by African Development Bank Group.

The fundamental challenge of Rwanda is a dense and rapidly increasing population on a fragile and rapidly eroding land resource, exacerbated by climate change.

The Development of Agroforestry and Sustainable Agriculture project is expected to contribute to solving these challenges by advocating and supporting the restoration and rehabilitation of landscapes including degraded lands with agroforestry systems for sustainable agricultural development. (End)
