Rwanda offers condolences as deadly fire claims lives at Turkish resort

Rwanda’s President Paul Kagame extended his condolences to Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan following a devastating fire at the Grand Kartal Hotel in the popular ski resort of Kartalkaya, located in Bolu, northwestern Türkiye.

Messages of condolences poured after a devastating fire at a ski resort in Türkiye’s Bolu province claimed at least 76 lives on Tuesday, as the country announced a day of mourning for the tragic disaster.

“My heartfelt condolences to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and the people of Türkiye for the tragic loss of life in the devastating fire at the ski resort in Bolu. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families and all those affected by this tragedy. We extend our wishes for recovery to those injured.” President Kagame posted on X.

Turkey declared Wednesday a national day of mourning to honor the victims of a devastating fire that tore through a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province. The blaze claimed 76 lives, including several children, and injured 51 others. Flags across the country will be flown at half-mast until sunset.

Witnesses described harrowing scenes as the fire engulfed the hotel within 30 minutes, forcing terrified guests to leap from windows in a desperate attempt to escape. (End)
