Rwanda offers condolences to victims of wildfires in South Korea 

The Rwandan Embassy in South Korea expressed solidarity Wednesday with the victims of a wave of wildfires sweeping through the southeastern region, and with residents of Hahoe Village in the southeastern city of Andong as they brace for the approaching flames.

“On behalf of the Government of Rwanda, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims of the wildfires that continue to rage across southeastern South Korea”, the Rwanda Embassy in South Korea said in a message.

The Rwanda Embassy in South Korea issued the message on social media platform X, adding “We express our solidarity with the Korean people and government in these distressing days”, the Rwanda Embassy in South Korea added on social media platform X. 

About 190 kilometers southeast of Seoul, Hahoe is one of the most famous and popular folk villages in South Korea and was listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 2010. It preserves houses and traditions from the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910).

Authorities earlier said the wildfire had advanced to within just 5 km of Hahoe Village.

Other countries, such as the United States, Japan and China, also expressed their condolences. (End)
