Kigali: Rwanda’s Amavubi team is set to host Taifa Stars of Tanzania in an international friendly on October 14 at Stade de Kigali in Kigali City.
The game will be staged as part of the FIFA window of international friendlies and will be pivotal for both sides as they prepare for the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers due next month.
Rwanda is placed in Group F alongside hosts Cameroon, Mozambique and Cape Verde while Tanzania is placed in Group J with Tunisia, Libya and Equatorial Guinea.
The game should also help Coach Mashami Vincent to prepare his domestic side, which will be facing Ethiopia in the return leg of the 2020 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) where they will face Ethiopia on October 19 at Stade de Kigali.
Rwanda will go into the tie with a 1-0 away victory registered last month in Mekelle, Ethiopia.
The away victory effectively gave Amavubi an edge over their Horn of Africa opponents and should they maintain their clean sheet, then they would be assured of a place in the 6th African Nations Championships (CHAN) to be held in Cameroon next year.
A draw will be enough for Amavubi to secure a third consecutive appearance – and fourth overall – in the continent’s second-biggest football tournament. (End)
