Kigali: The National Bank of Rwanda will host the 42nd Annual Meetings of the Association of African Central Banks (AACB) from 28th July – 1st August 2019, at Kigali Convention Centre.
The AACB has the objective of promoting co-operation in the monetary, banking and financial spheres in the African region as well as envisage the advent of a single currency and a common central bank.
The 42nd ordinary meeting of the AACB will be preceded by a symposium on 31st July 2019 under the theme “Rising African Sovereign Debt: Implications for Monetary Policy and Financial Stability”.
The symposium will host more than 400 participants including, African Central Bank Governors and their senior staff, domestic economic policymakers, development partners, financial sector players, academia, think tanks and representatives of African Regional Economic Communities.
The Symposium is aimed mainly at promoting exchanges among economic policy-makers and other participants. Discussions will include appropriate strategies for sovereign debt management, drawing on lessons learned in Africa and other regions of the world.
The exchanges will also focus on the challenges faced by African countries, with a view to keeping the public debt at a sustainable level, while financing the development agenda.
Prior to the AACB meetings, the National Bank of Rwanda will also host the East African Community Central Bank Governors’ Monetary Affairs Committee (MAC) meeting on 30th July 2019. (End)
