On 17th March 2023, Rwanda will join the rest of the world to celebrate the World Consumer Rights Day under the theme “Better and Affordable Telecom Services”, a theme that responds to the country’s aspiration for a digital-driven economy.
Furthermore, the celebration of this day presents a good avenue to encourage consumers to support the country’s initiatives aimed at using the approved telecommunication platforms as an alternative to normal shopping and related transactions.
The celebration of the day will be an opportunity to assess/discuss the challenges associated with access to quality and affordable telecommunication services, legal redress available to consumers, and how telecommunication services can be used as a tool to promote consumer rights.
This theme is aligned to the country’s recent campaign “Connect Rwanda” aimed at bridging the country’s digital divide, especially in rural areas, a move that directly responds to NST1 target for full digitization of government services by 2024.
