Rwandan peacekeepers in S. Sudan play friendly football match and donate sports equipment

Juba-Durupi: Today, Rwandan peacekeepers (RWANBATT-3) serving under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) played a friendly football match with the youth from IDP Camp-3, during which they also donated sports equipment to the camp’s football team. The match took place at the Madi football playground in Juba and ended with RWANBATT-3 securing a 2-0 victory.

The Chairman of IDP Camp-3, Mr. Elijah Hon Badiep, expressed gratitude to the Rwandan peacekeepers for their ongoing cooperation with the South Sudanese people, noting that the match symbolized shared hope for peace and unity. He emphasized that such events help build mutual trust and understanding between the peacekeepers and the local community.

RWANBATT-3 contingent commander, Col. John Tyson Sesonga expressed appreciation to everyone who contributed to making the event a success. “Today, we are not just soldiers and civilians; we are teammates,” he said, highlighting the spirit of collaboration between the Rwandan peacekeepers and the IDP community.  (End)
