Rwandan peacekeepers under United Nations mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) conducted a two-day campaign against malnutrition in Juba County, Rajaf Payam, Koroch West Village from 17th to 18th April 2023.
Among the initiatives made by the peacekeepers was to train the local population in making their own household vegetable gardens in order to have a balanced diet in their families. They also taught residents how to use economic cooking stoves known as rondereza. About 114 residents were trained for 2 days.
Speaking to the community, Maj Innocent RUGENERANDEKWE the Rwanbatt-3 in charge of civil-military relations (S9) said that the vegetable gardens targeted fighting malnutrition while cooking stoves initiative aims at protecting the environment and reducing risks of violence against women during their daily routine of fire wood collection.
The Chief of the Village of Koroch West, Abraham Makuac thanked Rwanbatt-3 and UNMISS at large for their noble service in South Sudan. He stressed that the skills acquired would be expanded to other members of their community. (End)
