Rwandan youth from abroad visit Rwanda National Police

Kigali: A group of 43 Rwandan youth from the diaspora visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) at the General Headquarters in Kacyiru, as part of their annual ‘Rwanda Youth Tour’ to explore the country’s culture and history.

The RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, received the youth on behalf of the RNP leadership, and briefed them on the policing journey and national building after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.

“The police mandate rotates around building confidence, trust and strong relations with Rwandans, fighting corruption and injustice, ensuring transparency and accountability; contributing to the country’s socio-economic development through human security activities; international cooperation and supporting other countries through bilateral and multilateral engagements,” ACP Rutikanga told the youth.

He also briefed on the concept of community policing as a vital tool for problem-solving and information sharing; technological advancement, training and the role played by the Rwandan youth in crime prevention and security.

Lena Rutagira from Belgium expressed her admiration for Rwanda as a “safe and secure country.”

“It is my first time to participate in Rwanda Youth Tour and I have liked it…I have met a lot of people. I have been seeing people in Belgium wearing Visit Rwanda T-shirts and it’s a pride to promote my beautiful country Rwanda as well,” Lena said.

She added: “I am learning more on how Rwanda works, the history and I am really excited. I did not know much about Rwanda Police, and today, after interacting with Police officers, I now know why Rwanda is a safe country.”

Sandra Kabandana also from Belgium, said: “It my second time to visit Rwanda National Police and to know more about the work they are doing, how it invests in the citizens and the young people in particular… to expand the role of the Police by involving the people they are mandated to protect and serve. It is interesting to see that the Police is an institution to be proud of and to rely on.”

The youth group was also given a tour of different Police facilities. (End)
