
Rwanda Formed Police Unit One, ninth rotation (RWAFPU1-9) deployed in Malakal, Upper-Nile State under the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), on Saturday, February 22, joined the local residents in a communal work (Umuganda).
Spearheaded by FPU1-9 contingent commander, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nelson Bugingo, the Rwandan peacekeepers worked together with hundreds of internally displaced persons (IDPS) to clean the camp and its surroundings, where they picked up litter and cleared bushes to promote health and hygiene.
Bollis Bol, the chairman of the Community watch group, a community policing group that was formed to deal with security matters within the camp, thanked the Rwandan peacekeepers for their role in promoting hygiene and good health as well as protecting the environment.
“This communal exercise sends a message about the close partnership between the Rwandan peacekeepers and the citizens, their will to promote hygiene and wellbeing of the local population under their protection as well as protecting the environment,” said Bollis.
He sensitized the local population on the importance of communal work urging them to adapt it also as a tool to promote unity and self-reliance.
ACP Bugingo, on his part, thanked the local residents for the partnership in peace and security in the area adding that people’s health is fundamental to human security.
He pledged for continued support and partnership in various aspects of policing and human security matters including hygiene, sanitation and environmental protection. (End)
