Tour du Rwanda 2025: Public urged not to disrupt cycling competition

As the 17th edition of Tour du Rwanda gets underway this Sunday, February 23, Rwanda National Police (RNP) has urged spectators not to disrupt the riders or cause accidents.

The international cycling competition will trek through 23 districts covering a distance of 804 kilometers.The RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, called upon the public to avoid anything that can obstruct riders.

“The cycling race, like other competitions, attracts a big number of excited spectators along the road in towns, commercial centres and rural areas across the country.

We call on all cycling enthusiasts and spectators to stay away from the road and avoid crossing recklessly,” ACP Rutikanga said.He also urged parents and mentors not to leave children or students unattended.

The spokesperson said that some roads will be partially closed to facilitate riders, which is likely to affect the traffic flow.

“Some roads will be closed to traffic flow from time to time. Motorists are advised to use alternative routes or wait until the road is reopened to traffic flow.

Police officers will be there to facilitate you, and RNP will continue to continue to give timely updates on its social media platforms, on roads that will be partially closed and when they are reopened to traffic,” ACP Rutikanga RNP has also provided contacts–0788311502 and 0788311013–for inquiries.
