Uganda, Rwanda army officials met to discuss cross-border security aspects

In Nyagatare District, the Rwanda Defence Force (2nd and 5th Divisions) received a delegation from Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) 2nd Division led by Brigadier General Paul MUHANGUZI, UPDF 2nd Division commander for a three days cross-border security meeting.

The meeting involving RDF and UPDF forces deployed along the Rwanda and Uganda border aims to discuss the security aspects of the border areas, including cross-border criminal activities, and to strengthen the existing relationship between RDF and UPDF.

On behalf of the RDF Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Vincent NYAKARUNDI, Army chief of staff, appreciated the UPDF’s unwavering commitment to maintaining security and fostering joint coordination along the shared borders of the two neighboring countries. He urged the participants to maintain the existing special relationship between the two countries and work together to address security challenges as the commanders deployed along the common borders.

The UPDF delegation also visited the Nyagatare district office, where they received a warm welcome from Mayor GASANA Stephen.

During this three-day visit, The RDF and UPDF teams are scheduled to visit multiple shared borders between Rwanda and Uganda in the East-North region.
