The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment, Patrick Karera, in partnership with UNDP Rwanda and Rubavu District officiated the handover of completed activities in Mudende IDP(Integrated Development Program) Green Village that host 57 families of Genocide Survivors relocated from high risk zones. The activities costed 360M Frws funded by Government of Rwanda and UNDP.
Key components include cows distribution and cowshed construction, organic fertilizers production, purchasing land for farming, rainwater harvesting tanks among others. In addition to the greening activities, the project supported beneficiaries in implementing income generating projects to improve their livelihoods.
IDP(Integrated Development Program) Model Village settlements are a government initiative to provide proper housing to disadvantaged and persons in high risk areas. The idea was born in 2010 with each of the 30 districts supposed to have a model village to promote proper human settlement in rural areas. (End)
