UNESCO Assistant Director-General for Education, Stefania Giannini, and her delegation visited the Kigali Genocide memorial to pay respects to the victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi and toured memorial exhibits to learn more about the history of Genocide.
After laying a wreath at the burial place where 250,000 victims killed during the genocide are laid to rest, Stefania Giannini observed a moment of silence in memory of the innocents slain.
In the memorial guestbook, Stefania Giannini wrote: “A very touching visit, full of pain but that gives us a message of hope, because the new generations seem ready to build a future of peace based on education for peace. UNESCO supports you in this journey today and in the future.” (End)
