UNHCR, DRC, Rwanda discuss in Addis Ababa voluntary repatriation of refugees

UNHCR , the UN Refugee Agency, together with DRC and Rwanda concluded today a two-day tripartite meeting on the voluntary repatriation of Congolese and Rwandan refugees from both countries.

The meeting updated the action plan for repatriating Congolese refugees in Rwanda and reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to receiving returnees from the DRC.

The tripartite meeting took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Habinshuti Philippe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry in charge of Emergency Management, led Rwanda’s delegation. 

The Technical Tripartite Meeting came as a follow up to commitments made during a High-Level Meeting held in May 2023 in Geneva.

As of 31 Aug 2024, 135,077 Congolese refugees are hosted in Rwanda while more than 208,000 Rwandan refugees are living in the DRC. (End)
