New students were keen to learn about the university life
Nearly 8,000 new students have enrolled across various campuses of the University of Rwanda, participating in a two-week orientation program designed to ease their transition into university life. This program features a series of lectures covering essential areas such as soft skills development, digital literacy, and English language proficiency. In addition to academic preparation, the program also incorporates sports and cultural activities, aiming to create a well-rounded introduction to university life.
The orientation is specifically tailored to help freshers adjust smoothly to both the social and academic aspects of university life, equipping them with the critical skills needed to become responsible citizens and future leaders. University leaders have taken an active role in welcoming the new students, engaging them in meaningful interactions to help them blend with the new environment.
Professor Kayihura Didas, the University Vice Chancellor, personally visited several campuses, offering words of encouragement to the new students. He urged them to embrace the challenges and opportunities of university life with enthusiasm, emphasizing that their success in this new chapter is within their control. Professor Kayihura also underscored the importance of English as the primary language of instruction and highlighted the need for students to develop confidence in academic settings.
In addition to the Vice Chancellor’s visits, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategic Planning and Administration, Dr. Raymond Ndikumana, also engaged with students during the induction program. Dr. Ndikumana provided insights into the university’s governance and organizational structure, encouraging students to connect with their peers across different campuses to build a strong, collaborative community.
Recognizing the importance of early academic preparation, the University of Rwanda has also introduced an intensive soft skills enhancement program for its newly admitted students. This initiative, with a particular focus on English proficiency and career readiness, aims to ensure that freshers are well-prepared to excel both academically and socially as they begin their first year of study.
