By the end of last year, Nyaruguru had about 4000 hectares of tea and the Nshiri Tea Factory. The government tea agency Ocir-The has invested some US$41Million (24 Billion Francs) in the entire national tea program – which has developed some 9000 hectares and several factories.
According to the Mayor of Nyaruguru, Sibomana Felix, who was welcoming President Kagame amid thunderous applause, said because of the many developments that have come into his district in just a short time, they will pay back in kind.
“We expect to receive one of the highest percentage of votes for our candidate,” Sibomana said. He told the RPF flag-bearer that Nyaruguru people had arrived at the rally site before down, even when the candidate would to arrive late evening.
Nyaruguru district now has 35 schools spread across the relatively large area, up from 15 just a few years ago, say officials. Electricity has also arrived in the area.
Officials also say Nshiri Tea Factory and tea plantations have provided jobs for thousands of residents. “They earn between Frw 40 million and Frw 50 million per month,” said Mayor Sibomana, as the crown erupted in repeated applause.
In Gisagara district earlier, the RPF candidate equally got the welcome – that has become synonymous with his campaign. Tens of thousands had been waiting all morning until he got there around mid-day.
President Kagame was informed that Gisagara now boosts of 13 more schools that were added to 13 existing ones which were also renovated.
When he took to the podium, Kagame repeated the pledge he made on Tuesday in Ruhango and Kamonyi, that free education for all would increase from nine years to 12 years.
Several testimonies suggested how people have moved from owning nothing to top businesses – supplying even the cities.
Government has also promised to upgrade the roads linking Nyaruguru and Gisagara districts to major national urban centers like Huye – also in the South.
