M23 rebels occupy Nyamilima town in Rutshuru after withdrawal of the Wazalendo

The agglomeration of Nyamilima, the largest entity of the Binza grouping in Rutshuru territory in the province of North Kivu in eastern DRC, has come under the control of the M23 rebels since this Saturday, August 3, 2024.

Their entry was signed around 3 p.m. local time without any confrontation. The different Wazalendo groups retreated for a few hours before the men of the M23-AFC coalition landed in this area.

The columns of M23 elements entered the strategic city of Nyamilima divided into two groups. One passed near this entity from the Kivisire district. Others passed across the main road accompanied by armored vehicles.

When occupying the military position of the square, they fired several heavy shots from heavy and light weapons for unknown reasons.

The inhabitants of this jurisdiction kept their cool upon the arrival of these new occupants.

The fall of the Nyamilima agglomeration comes after that of several other localities on the Kiwanja-Ishasha road, including Nkwenda, Kiseguro, Katwiguru, Kisharo this Friday, August 2.

Meanwhile, fear reigns among the population of Ishasha on the border with neighboring Uganda regarding this advance of the M23.

Remember that the M23 rebels had again taken control of this area before their voluntary withdrawal more than a year ago. (End)
