Kagame, Africa CDC boss discussed collaboration in containing Marburg virus

President Kagame met with Dr. Jean Kaseya, Director-General of the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention(CDC). 

They discussed Rwanda’s preparedness and collaboration with Africa CDC in containing the spread of the Marburg virus. 

They also exchanged on various strategies to help enhance disease prevention as well as building increased capacity for manufacturing of vaccines and medical kits on the continent.

On September 27, 2024, the Republic of Rwanda’s Ministry of Health reported cases of Marburg Virus Disease (MVD) in seven districts around the country and declared an outbreak. As of October 9, 2024, Rwanda has reported 58 cases and 13 deaths from MVD. (End)
