
Pupils of Wisma International School led by their teaching staff, visited Rwanda National Police (RNP) to learn more about Community Policing.
They visited the departments of Traffic and Road Safety (TRS), Canine Brigade and Fire and Rescue Brigade (FRB).
While visiting TRS Department, in the training conducted at Giporoso roundabout in Remera sector, Gasabo District, pupils were explained the role of Gerayo Amahoro campaign and were reminded to always be vigilant when using the road.
At the Police general headquarters in Kacyiru, pupils were given both theory and practical fire safety sessions on components, types of fire emergencies, preventive measures and also got the chance to manipulate different equipment used during emergencies.
They were also explained how Sniffer dogs are taken care of, are deployed and fed, and their instrumental role in Police targeted operations especially against narcotic drugs and explosives as well.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga, the Rwanda National Police spokesperson; said that RNP conducts Community policing awareness to increase the sense of responsibility and help citizens understand their role in partnering with Police in solving crimes and other security challenges.
“Rwanda National Police always conducts public awareness aimed at providing skills to citizens helping them understand their role in partnering with Police in preventing crimes and other security challenges. Training children at such a young age is planning for the future of the country in separate aspects of security. There is a belief that they will keep in mind what they learnt and also teach their generation,” said ACP Rutikanga.
Gasana Nadège, the headmistress of the school, expressed gratitude to the Rwanda National Police for extending the training to the staff and students, fostering a clear understanding of fire safety, proper road usage and respect for traffic control signs among others. (End)
