German Economic Minister visiting West and East Africa

Before coming to Rwanda, Minister Mueller will visit Senegal and Niger. In Senegal Germany is mainly operating in the field of renewable energies. Meanwhile 2.7 million Senegalese receive their electricity using renewable sources of energy, also in remote rural areas.

In Niger the main focus will be to explore further initiatives to give people a chance and a perspective to remain in their home countries. This West African state is one of the major transit countries for people who move towards Libya and from there towards Europe across the Mediterranean Sea.

Coming to Rwanda, the Minister will visit a country which successfully implemented numerous reforms to develop the nation. The focus of the visit will be on TVET and Good Governance/Decentralization.

Rwanda is one of the countries with the lowest level of corruption on the African continent, certainly also due to strong institutions like the Office of the Auditor General and the Office of the Ombudsman.

According to the Global Competitive Report, the Rwandan government is 7th for the efficiency of its public management.

Together with Hon. Minister for Education, Dr. Musafiri, Minister Mueller will visit the Integrated Polytechnic Regional Centre (IPRC) in Kigali.

In the afternoon he will have a bilateral meeting with Hon. Minister Gatete. Visiting a local market will also be part of the program.

At the end of his journey, Minister Mueller will visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi in commemoration of the victims of the Genocide 22 years ago. (End)
