The Governor of Cabo Delgado province, Mozambique, Mr Valige Tauabo officially reopened the commercial port of Mocimboa da Praia after more than two years of closure following Ansar Al Sunnah terrorist capture and control of the port city which halted all port activities.
The reopening ceremony included among others the operationalisation of the first cargo ship to be used by the city residents and surrounding areas since its closure.
The Governor thanked the joint security forces of Rwanda and Mozambique for their effort in normalising the security situation in Mocimboa Da Praia leading to the reopening of the port.
Rwanda was the first African country to send troops to support the Mozambican army in fighting jihadists in the northern Cabo Delgado region. (End)
