The Rwandan Minister of National Unity and Civic Engagement, Dr. Jean Damascene Bizimana, met today with the Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals(IRMCT)
Minister Jean Damascene Bizimana and Prosecutor Serge Brammertz had great discussions about their collaboration and ongoing genocide against Tutsi trials at the IRMCT. They committed to strengthen this collaboration and extend it to the areas of Memory and Research.
The trial of alleged Rwandan genocide financier Felicien Kabuga started on September 29th 2022 in The Hague courtroom of the Residual Mechanism for the International Criminal Tribunals.
IRMCT Prosecutor Serge Brammertz is on an official visit to Kigali from 14 to 18 November, as part of preparations for his regular biannual report to the United Nations Security Council.
The International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals (Mechanism) was established by UN Security Council Resolution 1966 (2010) to complete the remaining work of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia after the completion of their respective mandates.
The Mechanism has two branches, one in Arusha, Tanzania, and one in The Hague, Netherlands. (End).
