Rwanda National Police (RNP) reminds the public to enjoy responsibly in this festive season and to celebrate in a manner that does not affect their safety and that of others.
The RNP spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Boniface Rutikanga called for “safety first” and to avoid behaviours and acts that affect beliefs of others, and compromise public safety.
“Excessive drinking as a way of celebrating degrades dignity, fuels immoral behaviours, fighting, injuries and even loss of lives,” ACP Rutikanga said.
He further called on those in the entertainment and hospitality sectors to follow the guidelines and the law, avoid serving alcohol to minors and to intoxicated customers.
“Alcohol it is not for children, to avoid sound pollution and other activities that disrupt peace and wellbeing of other people,” ACP Rutikanga said.
He reminded students that this is time to reflect on their academic achievements and plan for future goals rather than wasting their time and living in inappropriate behaviours and peer groups.
ACP Rutikanga further urged parents to monitor their children and ensure their safety as future leaders of Rwanda.
Road safety
The spokesperson cautioned against driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding.
“When you drink, don’t drive; find other safer means to go home like having a designated driver or taking a taxi. The festive period increases movements and traffic flow, so don’t drive when you drink or under fatigue.”
“Rwanda National Police wishes all Rwandans an enjoyable festive season, and a safe and prosperous New Year 2025,” ACP Rutikanga concluded. (End)
