Kigali: President Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame joined thousands of music enthusiasts for the second edition of Move Afrika Concert featuring EGOT-winning artist and producer John Legend.
On Friday, February 21, renowned American singer John Legend took the stage at BK Arena as part of the 2025 Move Afrika, marking his first-ever performance in East Africa.
“I am so proud to be here for my first-ever performance in East Africa and Rwanda. We are here because we love you. I love your energy, keep it going.” – John Legend told the crowd.
Behind this initiative stands Global Citizen, also known as Global Poverty Project, an international organization dedicated to fighting poverty and injustice worldwide. Move Afrika is one of its flagship projects, designed to mobilize young African talents and build a sustainable ecosystem around music, entertainment, and innovation.
Move Afrika is an international music touring circuit throughout the African continent over the next five years aimed at creating more economic opportunities for Africa’s younger generations through live music.

The tour was created by Global Citizen in partnership with Kendrick Lamar’s entertainment company pgLang and the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), a government institution mandated to accelerate Rwanda’s economic development by enabling private sector growth.
“Our goal with Move Afrika is to inspire local youth and artists to unlock their creativity. We hope to curate an immersive experience that empowers various communities and cultures across Africa and around the world for a lifetime,” said pgLang.
For RDB, Move Afrika is a unique collaboration that aims to showcase the best of African creative talent to the world, through curated memorable entertainment experiences that address development priorities of the African continent.
Move Afrika is much more than a concert series. This initiative seeks to boost the local economy by engaging local artists, vendors, and crews, thereby creating opportunities for job training and skill development. The goal is clear: to mobilize leaders, businesses, philanthropists, artists, and citizens to take collective action toward a brighter future.
The first edition of Move Afrika took place on December 06, 2024, at the BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, and headlined by Grammy Award, Pulitzer prize winning artist, and co-founder of pgLang, Kendrick Lamar.
The inaugural Move Afrika focused on the need to strengthen health systems, with a specific emphasis on supporting community health workers; addressing the climate crisis, particularly its impact on food security, and securing support for smallholder farmers; and tackling the lack of access to economic opportunities for future generations.
This year, Move Afrika is turning up the energy, expanding from East to West Africa with stops in Rwanda and Nigeria. The first stop was at the iconic BK Arena in Kigali, Rwanda, on February 21, before heading to the vibrant city of Lagos, Nigeria at The Palms on February 25, 2025. (End)
