Rwanda Foreign Minister attended Donald Trump’s inauguration

Minister of Foreign Affairs Olivier Nduhungirehe attended the swearing-in ceremony of the 47th President of the United States Donald Trump and Vice President James David Vance

“We look forward to deepening the collaboration and  partnership between the U.S. and Rwanda”, he said via X. The inauguration of Donald Trump as the 47th president of the United States took place on Monday, January 20, 2025.

Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe is in New York for a working visit. He will speak at a high-level event at the United Nations Security Council, hosted by Algeria during its Presidency, under the theme: “African-led and development-focused counter-terrorism: strengthening African leadership and implementation of counter-terrorism initiatives.”

While in New York, Minister Nduhungirehe paid a courtesy call to Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs. Their discussions focused on enhancing the partnership between Rwanda and the UN, and fostering mutual understanding on shared priorities.

On the sidelines of his visit to New York, Minister Nduhungirehe  held a bilateral meeting with his Somali counterpart, Ambassador Ahmed FIQI. They discussed strengthening bilateral relations between Rwanda and Somalia, with a focus on shared goals.

At the margins of his visit to New York, he held discussions with Mr. Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations. They explored ways to bolster collaboration between Rwanda and the UN in peacekeeping, reaffirming Rwanda’s commitment to global peace and security. (End)
