Statement of Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Morocco following talks with his British counterpart Mr. Dominic Raab

Morocco has become “a key player” for the development of investment in Africa thanks to the vision of HM King Mohammed VI, said in London, on Monday 20th January2020, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation and Moroccans Expatriates of the Kingdom of Morocco, Mr. Nasser Bourita.

In a statement to the press following his talks with his British counterpart Mr. Dominic Raab, within the framework of the “UK Africa Investment Summit 2020”, which is held in the British capital, Mr. Bourita said that “Morocco is a key player in the development of investment in Africa thanks to the Royal policy carried out in the continent over the past fifteen years”.

The Kingdom is today an actor in the conception and the implementation of African emergence, noted the Minister, adding that Morocco has “a natural calling to play a role of a link between African countries and Europe, on the back of its history, its geographical position and its knowledge of European and African partners”.

To understand the relevance of the Moroccan presence in this summit, one must take into account the following main considerations, namely the positive bilateral partnership, the positive dynamic that relations between Morocco and the United Kingdom experienced during the recent years, marked in particular by the signing of an agreement on strategic dialogue, the trade association agreement and the agreement concerning the opening of British schools in Morocco, in addition to the exchange of bilateral visits which reflect the development of trade and tourism and investment flows between the two Kingdoms, he said.

Mr. Bourita also took part in the talks held  within the framework of this summit between head of government Saad Dine El Otmani and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson.

Organized by the British Prime Minister, the “UK Africa Investment Summit 2020 ‘”, which is attended by sixteen African leaders, sets the goals of growing the panel of the UK’s trading partners after leaving the European Union on January 31, 2020.

This is the first UK-Africa investment summit, which brings together investors and businessmen from around twenty African countries, including Morocco. (End)
