
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State’s Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), has deported Rwandan national Napolean Ahmed Mbonyunkiza and transferred him into the custody of Rwandan authorities.
“Mbonyunkiza was previously convicted of several crimes and served a prison sentence in the United States”, according to the ICE in a statement.
Born in 1968, Napolean Ahmed Mbonyunkiza was tried and convicted in absentia by the Nyakabanda Gacaca Court for his role in the genocide against Tutsi.
The National Public Prosecution Authorities commends the USA Judicial Authorities for their cooperation in deporting genocide fugitive, the ongoing assistance in matters of mutual legal support, and their contribution to the global fight against impunity.
