Two Ugandan nationals shoot by Rwandan security

Two Ugandan nationals suspected to be smuggling goods into Rwanda have been shot dead by Rwandan security along the Uganda-Rwanda border.

The shooting  which occurred at around 03:00 AM on Sunday is said to have happened at a place called Tabagwe (Rwanda side) which borders with Kamwezi in Uganda.

One of the deceased persons has been identified as Job Ebindishanga, 32, from Kiruhura cell, Kamwezi sub-county in Rukiga district. The other is Bosco Tuheirwe aged 35, a resident of Kabira cell, Kamwezi in Rukiga district., Their bodies were taken to Nyagatare district in the Eastern Province.

Those killed were part of a group of five people, three of whom managed to escape back to Uganda.

In March, Rwanda “strongly’ advised her nationals not to travel to Uganda.

Rwanda National Police (RNP) on Sunday, released a statement confirming the news saying,” The smugglers became violent and assaulted police officers who reacted in self-defense shooting dead two while the rest escaped.

Rwanda National Police said it had opened an investigation into this incident.
