Ugandan Minister visits Rwanda’s National Command Post for Marburg virus response

The Ugandan Minister of State for Primary Health Care Margaret Muhanga Mugisa, accompanied by Minister of State Dr. Yvan Butera, visited Rwanda’s National Command Post to witness firsthand the country’s response to the Marburg virus disease (MVD) outbreak.

During her visit, the Minister expressed her admiration for the command post’s operations and Rwanda’s unwavering dedication to controlling the outbreak. She noted the impressive coordination and swift actions being taken to avoid the spread of the virus to neighbouring countries.

A significant aspect of Rwanda’s strategy is the use of technology, which has been instrumental in enhancing surveillance, contact tracing, and community engagement. The Minister acknowledged how innovative solutions are vital in the fight against infectious diseases.

Discussions focused on the synergy among various health response pillars—laboratory services, epidemiology, and logistics—that are essential for an effective and sustainable approach. She emphasized the importance of regional collaboration, reinforcing the idea that health security is a collective responsibility.
